据猛龙随队记者Michael Grange报道，在猛龙内部看来，范弗里特的离开并没有被描述为无法挽回的损失。猛龙认为如果火箭的出价是2年8300万，那么他们仍有考虑匹配的可能。但是当火箭出到3年1.3亿，猛龙已不打算再还价。
